SS Tank for Hydrostatic Pressure Testing — Insulated Water Bath for Pipe Sample Immersion (200 to 5000 Litres)

About SS Tank for Hydrostatic Pressure Testing

SS Tank for Hydrostatic Pressure testing for pipe sample immersion.

International Equipments is a leading manufacturer, supplier and exporter of SS Tanks for Hydrostatic Pressure Testing in India. Built at our Mumbai facility, our SS Tank is the dedicated insulated water bath in which plastic pipe samples are submerged at a controlled elevated temperature during long-term hydrostatic creep rupture testing - strictly as per IS 4984, IS 4985, ISO 1167 and ASTM D 1598. The tank is the natural matched companion to our Computerised Hydrostatic Pressure Testing Panel, together forming the complete hydrostatic pressure test system used by every BIS-certified HDPE, PVC, CPVC and PPR pipe manufacturer.

Hydrostatic pressure testing of plastic pipes is fundamentally a temperature-AND-pressure test - not just a pressure test. The pipe sample must be held at a precisely-controlled elevated temperature (typically 20°C, 60°C or 80°C) AND at constant internal pressure for hours, days or weeks. The SS Tank is the temperature-controlled bath that delivers that controlled temperature - completely submerging the pipe sample in heated water so the entire pipe wall reaches uniform temperature equilibrium.

What is an SS Tank for Hydrostatic Pressure Testing?

An SS Tank for Hydrostatic Pressure Testing is a temperature-controlled stainless-steel water bath specifically engineered for the long-duration submersion of plastic pipe samples during hydrostatic creep rupture testing. The tank's primary function is to maintain the pipe sample at the precise elevated test temperature (typically 20°C, 60°C or 80°C) for the entire duration of the test - from minimum 1-hour cycles up to 10,000-hour long-term hydrostatic strength characterisation cycles.

Different from a generic laboratory water bath, the SS Tank for hydrostatic testing is purpose-built: double-walled insulated construction to minimise heat loss; stainless-steel construction throughout for corrosion resistance; integrated manifolds in the tank walls allowing flexible high-pressure hoses to enter and exit cleanly via quick-release couplings; and capacity sized to accommodate the longer pipe sample lengths specified by IS 4984, IS 4985 and ISO 1167.

About Our Double-Walled Insulated SS Tank

Our SS Tank is engineered as a double-walled, fully insulated water bath with comprehensive thermal protection - including insulation across the access doors so that no heat escapes during multi-day test cycles. Standard construction is all-stainless-steel for the wetted interior, with mild-steel powder-coated exterior for long laboratory service life.

The tank wall houses integrated stainless-steel manifolds with quick-release couplings on BOTH the inside and outside faces - essential for safe operation. Flexible high-pressure hoses from the Hydrostatic Pressure Panel connect to the external couplings; corresponding hoses inside the tank connect to the pipe samples being tested. Available capacities range from 200 litres up to 5000 litres.

Standard 415 V / 50 Hz three-phase power supply drives the tank's integrated heating elements and circulation pumps - necessary because of the high heating load needed to bring a large water mass up to test temperature. Powder-coated finish for long laboratory service life.

Why Insulated Tank Construction is Critical

  • Stable Test Temperature for Days or Weeks
Double-wall insulation with insulated doors minimises heat loss, allowing the heater to maintain set temperature with tight stability across long durations.
  • Energy Efficiency Over Long Test Cycles
Well-insulated tanks pay back their insulation investment many times over through reduced lifetime energy costs.
  • Protection Against Lab Ambient Temperature Variation
Double-wall insulation isolates the test bath from ambient HVAC cycles, seasonal changes and occupancy variation.
  • Uniform Temperature Across the Tank Volume
Good insulation, combined with appropriate circulation, gives uniform temperature so all samples in a batch see the same conditions.
  • Safety - Surface Temperature for Operators
Double-wall insulation keeps the outer surface at safe operator-touch temperature, even when the inside is at 80°C.

How the SS Tank Works with the Panel

  • Step 1 - Fill Tank and Set Test Temperature
Fill with water and set the temperature controller (typically 20°C, 60°C or 80°C). Allow the tank to warm up and stabilise.
  • Step 2 - Prepare Pipe Samples with End Caps
Cut pipe samples and fit pressure-tight End Caps to both ends.
  • Step 3 - Load Samples into the Tank
Submerge each sample fully; connect its pressure inlet via a hose to the wall manifold's inside coupling.
  • Step 4 - Set Pressure and Time on the Panel
On the Hydrostatic Pressure Panel outside the tank, set the test point. See Hydrostatic Pressure Panel.
  • Step 5 - Hold for the Specified Test Duration
The tank maintains set temperature continuously while the MMI on the Panel logs pressure, temperature and elapsed time.

FAQs

Both are needed to run a hydrostatic pressure test. The Hydrostatic Pressure Panel is the control unit - it generates and controls the water pressure (0 to 100 bar), houses the hydro-pneumatic pump, MMI display and PC connection. The SS Tank is the heated water bath - it holds the pipe samples submerged in temperature-controlled water during the test. We commonly supply both as a matched-package quotation.
It depends on your typical pipe diameter, sample length and parallel-test count. General guidance: 200-500 litres for small-diameter pipes tested individually; 500-1500 litres for medium pipes in small batches; 1500-3000 litres for large pipes 4-6 in parallel; 3000-5000 litres for very large pipes or full 8-station parallel testing.
Three-phase power is necessary because of the heating load involved. A 5000-litre water tank requires substantial heating power to reach 80°C in a reasonable time and maintain it. This exceeds what a single-phase 230 V supply can deliver economically.
Typical warm-up times: small tanks (200-500 litres) to 60°C - 2 to 4 hours; medium tanks (1000-2000 litres) - 4 to 8 hours; large tanks (3000-5000 litres) to 80°C - 8 to 16 hours. Most labs leave the tank running continuously.
The two-sided coupling arrangement lets the Panel-side hoses stay permanently connected to the outside coupling; only the inside coupling (tank-side hose to pipe sample) is connected/disconnected for each test - reducing wear and leak risk on the Panel side.
Yes. The SS Tank, Hydrostatic Pressure Panel and End Caps form the complete IS 4984 / IS 4985 / ISO 1167 hydrostatic test system. We commonly supply all three as a single quotation with one commissioning visit, one training programme and one AMC contract.
Clean tap water is acceptable for most routine QC use. Distilled or de-ionised water is preferred for high precision, since poor quality (hard) water can develop scaling on heaters and inner tank walls.
Yes. Free on-line installation of the SS Tank (typically requiring crane access for larger sizes), commissioning, operator training on the complete hydrostatic test method, and a factory calibration certificate for the temperature controller.
