About Hot Air Oven — Laboratory Hot Air Oven Manufacturer in India

Hot Air Oven with radial air circulation and auto shut facility.

International Equipments is a leading manufacturer, supplier and exporter of Laboratory Hot Air Ovens in India. Built at our Mumbai facility, our Hot Air Oven is a precision digital oven designed for controlled drying, heating, conditioning, ageing and curing of plastic, polymer, rubber, film, paper, fabric, textile and general-purpose laboratory samples — at temperatures from ambient to 250°C.

Our Hot Air Oven uses a radial-fan air-circulation system that delivers a uniform temperature distribution throughout the working chamber while saving at least 20% on power consumption by re-circulating the same hot air. A digital pre-settable timer (up to 999 minutes) with auto-shut facility lets the operator run unattended cycles overnight or over weekends without supervision — making it a reliable workhorse for any QC, R&D or production-support laboratory.

What is a Hot Air Oven?

A Hot Air Oven — also called a Laboratory Oven, Drying Oven, Conditioning Oven or Universal Oven — is an electrically heated cabinet that maintains a stable, controlled temperature inside a working chamber to dry, condition, age or cure laboratory samples. Air inside the chamber is circulated continuously by a fan, ensuring every part of the sample is exposed to the same temperature.

Hot Air Ovens are one of the most commonly used pieces of equipment in plastic, polymer, rubber, film, paper, fabric, food, pharmaceutical and quality-testing laboratories. They are essential for moisture removal before testing, for conditioning samples before tensile or impact testing (where IS, ASTM and ISO standards specify a fixed pre-test conditioning temperature and time), and for accelerated ageing studies where the long-term behaviour of a polymer is simulated in a short period at elevated temperature.

About Our Laboratory Hot Air Oven

Our Hot Air Oven is built with a mild-steel construction, powder-coated finish for long service life in lab environments, and a working chamber of 12 inch × 12 inch × 12 inch — a practical size that accommodates the majority of polymer, plastic, rubber and film test specimens used in Indian and export QC laboratories. Other working chamber sizes can be supplied on request to match the customer's specific volume requirement.

Temperature control is by a precision controller covering the full ambient-to-250°C range. The digital pre-settable timer (up to 999 minutes) with auto-shut facility shuts the oven off automatically at the end of the programmed cycle, protecting samples from over-exposure and saving electricity when the operator is not present.

The radial-fan air-circulation system is the heart of the design. Unlike still-air or simple natural-convection ovens, the radial fan continuously moves hot air horizontally across every sample shelf — eliminating cold spots, giving the same temperature in every corner of the chamber, and re-circulating the same hot air to reduce the energy needed to maintain set temperature.

How Radial Air Circulation Works

Most economy hot air ovens use simple convection — hot air rises naturally from a heating element at the bottom of the chamber. The problem with natural convection is that air at the top of the chamber tends to be much hotter than air near the bottom, creating uneven drying or conditioning across samples on different shelves.
Our Hot Air Oven uses a radial fan mounted inside the chamber. The fan continuously draws air across the heating element and pushes it horizontally outwards through perforated plenums on the chamber walls. The air sweeps across every shelf at the same speed and the same temperature, then returns to the fan to be re-heated — a closed re-circulation loop.
This delivers two real benefits in everyday use. First, temperature uniformity across the chamber is significantly better, so a sample on the top shelf experiences the same conditions as a sample on the bottom shelf. Second, because the same hot air is re-circulated (rather than vented and replaced with cold ambient air), the heating element needs less energy to maintain the set temperature — typically saving at least 20% of electricity compared to a non-circulating oven of the same chamber size.

A Hot Air Oven is rarely used in isolation — it is part of a typical laboratory sample-preparation and pre-test workflow. Common companion products from our range include:

    • Muffle Furnace
For high-temperature applications above 250°C (typically up to 1000°C) such as ash content and carbon black content determination — picks up where the Hot Air Oven leaves off.
    • Digital Density Apparatus
Used together with the Hot Air Oven for moisture-free density measurement of polymer granules and finished products.
    • Carbon Black Content Apparatus
Carbon black testing of HDPE / PE pipe materials commonly begins with oven-drying of the sample before muffle furnace burn-off.
    • Moisture Analyser
For rapid spot-check moisture readings; the Hot Air Oven is used for the reference oven-drying method
    • Universal Testing Machine (UTM) & Tensile Tester
ASTM and ISO tensile/flexural/impact tests require samples to be pre-conditioned in a controlled-temperature oven before testing — that is exactly what our Hot Air Oven provides
  • Radial Air Circulation — Uniform Temperature: Radial-fan circulation ensures true temperature uniformity across every shelf, unlike natural-convection ovens where the top of the chamber is hotter than the bottom.
  • 20% Energy Saving by Design: Re-circulation of the same hot air reduces the load on the heating element, resulting in at least 20% lower electricity consumption compared to equivalent non-circulating ovens.
  • Digital Timer with Auto-Shut: Program cycles up to 999 minutes and walk away. The oven automatically shuts off at the set time, protecting samples and saving power.
  • Ambient to 250°C Coverage: Suitable for virtually every polymer, rubber, film, paper, fabric, and general-purpose laboratory application requiring controlled drying or conditioning.
  • Custom Chamber Sizes Available: While the standard 12 × 12 × 12 inch chamber is the most popular, larger and smaller chamber sizes can be custom-built to suit specific batch requirements.

  • Complete Lab Equipment Range from One Supplier: Source your Hot Air Oven, Muffle Furnace, Density Apparatus, and other laboratory equipment from a single manufacturer with comprehensive after-sales support.

Frequently Asked Questions

A Hot Air Oven is a low-to-medium temperature instrument (typically ambient to 250°C) used for drying, conditioning, ageing, and curing samples without burning them. A Muffle Furnace is a high-temperature instrument (typically up to 1000°C or higher) used to burn off organic content, ash samples, or determine carbon black content. The two instruments complement each other, and most polymer quality-control laboratories use both. For applications above 250°C, a Muffle Furnace is recommended.
In a natural-convection oven, hot air rises from the heating element, causing the top shelves to become hotter than the bottom shelves. This can lead to inconsistent drying and ageing results. Radial-fan air circulation continuously moves hot air across every shelf, eliminating cold spots and maintaining uniform temperature throughout the chamber. It also recirculates the same heated air, reducing energy consumption by at least 20%.
Our standard chamber size is 12" × 12" × 12" (approximately 30 × 30 × 30 cm), which is the most popular configuration for polymer and plastics testing laboratories. Larger chambers such as 18" × 18" × 18", 24" × 24" × 24", and custom-built sizes are also available. Share your typical batch size and application, and we will recommend the most suitable chamber.
The standard operating temperature range is from ambient temperature up to 250°C. The oven is equipped with a precision digital temperature controller for accurate and repeatable results. For applications requiring tighter temperature control or PID auto-tuning, suitable controller options can be specified at the time of enquiry.
Yes. The built-in digital timer can be programmed for up to 999 minutes (approximately 16.5 hours). Once the cycle is complete, the auto-shut feature automatically switches off the oven, making overnight and extended drying cycles safe, convenient, and energy efficient.
